Announcing Barriers to Safety 2026

Fantanka Diaspora is proud to present Barriers to Safety 2026 — a research-informed national conference examining the underreporting of gender-based violence in migrant communities.

Taking place over two days at the Greyfriars Charteris Centre in Edinburgh, the event brings migrant communities and institutions together to break down the barriers to reporting SGBV — including FGM, sexual violence and domestic violence — through honest dialogue, research and cultural celebration.

Day One — 12 November

Institutions and Migrant Communities: a national conference (9 AM – 5 PM) with researchers, public institutions, policy makers and specialist services examining institutional policies and community perspectives.

Day Two — 13 November

Roots Conversations, Gala Dinner and Awards Night (8 PM – 1 AM): a special-format evening of thematic dialogues on culture, safety and collective responsibility, with live entertainment, food and networking. Admission £25.

The programme features live performances by Jally Kebba Susso (West African Kora) and Kumba Kuyateh (Mansa Jali). Together for safer communities — listen, learn, collaborate, create change.
